MBRC Hazard Reduction BURN.

21 July - 22 July

Hazard Reduction Burn

A hazard reduction burn of Raynbird Road Narangba is scheduled for Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July 2018. The burn is required to reduce the volume of forest litter fuel, thereby reducing potential bushfire hazards. The burn will also assist in providing conditions essential for native plant species regeneration.

Smoke is likely to be generated during the burn.  We are aware that this may cause some inconvenience; however, all attempts will be made to limit any adverse impacts on nearby residents.

Residents and businesses around the hazard reduction burn areas are reminded to take the following precautions:

  • Keep doors and windows closed and set air-conditioners to recirculate to prevent smoke entering homes
  • Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
  • Retract pool covers and shade structures to prevent ember damage
  • Remove washing from clothes lines
  • Ensure pets have a protected area
  • If driving through smoke, vehicles must slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on
  • Sightseers must keep away from the burns for their own safety.

If you have asthma or other breathing difficulties, reduce outdoor activities when smoke levels are high. If shortness of breath or coughing develops, take advised medical precautions or seek medical advice.

In an emergency call 000.

For further information on this burn, please contact Council on (07) 3205 0555 or alternatively information can be found at www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/plannedburns/

How does the planned hazard reduction impact on Dayboro?

I do not expect to much drama for dayboro, this is how I see the weather panning out.

  • Saturday: Sunny. Moderate to dense fog in the morning. High 20. Wind west-southwest around 6 kph in the morning, becoming southeast in the afternoon.
  • Saturday night: Clear. Patchy light fog in the evening, then moderate fog after midnight. Low 4. Wind south-southeast around 3 kph in the evening, becoming southwest after midnight.
  • Sunday: Sunny. Light to moderate fog in the morning. High 20. Wind south around 5 kph in the morning, becoming east-southeast in the afternoon.
  • Sunday night: Clear. Low 5. Wind south-southeast around 3 kph in the evening, becoming southwest after midnight.

During the day we should be ok. BUT, when the cold air comes in the smoke (if any) will be pushed down.
